The pictures on this page were submitted by Mr. Floyd Baker, who was employed by the New York Central Railroad at Central Terminal as an Operator and Wire Chief from 1959 until 1964. Here is Floyd's firsthand recollection of the Teletype area layout.

The teletype printers shown in the pictures were type 15. Very mechanical and slow. According to Floyd they operated at about 60 wpm.

Railroads in the United States used Telegraph well into the 1970's for not only internal communications but also as a way of communicating between various roads.
